Why is the Sky Blue?
Ever wondered why the sky is blue? When the sunlight reaches Earth’s atmosphere, the light waves are scattered in all different directions because of all the particles and gases in our atmosphere (Netting, 2011). Because blue has shorter and smaller wavelengths than other colors, it scatters more than other dominating colors (like red) when entering the atmosphere hence this specific color dominates what is seen (Netting, 2011). However, when the sun is setting, red light is scattered more than blue so the sunset appears to have reddish hues (Physics.org, n.d.).
